“To add Skills that can control your network security through a Voice enabled device is simply a bad idea. The security and privacy implications vastly outweigh the convenience factor.

If you own Smart Home devices (or know someone who does) –

  • Be aware of the limited protect that Voice activation provides
  • Certainly, change the wake phrase of the device from the default (“Hey Google”, “Alexa”)
  • Think twice about connecting your network security (firewalls, routers, etc) to Voice commands
  • Be aware that Apps and Web Browser that control of your firewalls and routers introduce risk to your Smart Home. Change the administrator username and password. Limit access to within your home if possible.

At A Cloud of My Own – we believe that the safest method of securing the Smart Home is via an advanced security device that has its interface built directly into the device itself. We have designed a cellphone sized touchscreen directly on our security device. Plug in the power cord and the network cable, and then complete your secure installation via a simple one screen configuration. This eliminates the vast majority of attack surfaces (and therefore risks) associated with devices which secure and protect your Smart Home Devices.”
